In 2008 founder Alex Wright and his old friend, Londoner Terry Mason(RIP) started work on what would become one of the best known retail names in UK combat sports.
Built out of a tiny office above his gym 'Cyclone MMA', Alex took his passion for fight sports and mixed it with a head for marketing to build his first commercial website FightstoreMMA.com.
A year later Fightstore needed a warehouse, with stock overflowing & the operation growing fast.
4 Years Later 2013
GOING PRO
Fightstore MMA had moved store 3 times and moved within Newcastle City three times. in 2013 we decided we had to change the name away from its MMA tag due to how popular we were with Boxers, online the MMA name didn't sit right as we were now very much a multi sport store. We'd become a major distributor of brands such as Fairtex, REVGEAR & Tencity. We worked with so many top fighters including Gunnar Nelson, Ross Pearson, Jimi Manuwa, Mike Wilkinson & tonnes of top local fighters too.
2016
TEAM VALLEY GATESHEAD
The bricks & mortar Fight Store had become more and more popular with figther's from all over the North East region. We had sold the online business for a brief period before taking it back in 2018. The Arches in Newcastle were no longer really viable. So we found a new home at the foot of the A1 on TEAM VALLEY.
The location was great for everyone. Easy access from North or South and tonnes of easy parking. We found more and more people prefered to just drive to the door.
in 2024 we decided to go back to front. We originally opened a physical store to compiment our website. With the rise of cheap Amazon fuelled Fight gear, a thousand lousy brands and more fight gyms in the North East in 2025 than there were in the entire country in 2009 we decided to concentrate 100% on our beloved North East Fight Scene.
