Advice Buying MMA & Muay Thai Shinguards

Shin guards for Muay Thai, kickboxing and MMA sparring are an absolute necessity, and they have evolved over the years to provide increasing amounts of protection whilst managing to cut down on size. However, the age old trade-off is still in place; the more padding you want, the more size you’ll have to accept. Of course shin conditioning through hitting pads and bags is essential for a kicker, shin pads are not just for your own safety. They are dual purpose for you and your training partner, allowing you to strike with confidence without injuring one another. Shins can be sensitive, particularly when they’re hitting other solid shins. Cuts and bruising can occur and it is recommended that shin pads are always worn when engaging in a spar that will contain lower limb attacks. The solid tibia striking an arm, rib, thigh or skull can also cause damage, and that’s why it’s important to allow for the right amount of protection. Bigger Muay Thai shin guards are perfect for harder stand-up sparring, but can be cumbersome if you are looking to use them for fighting in the grappling range too. Ever increasing numbers of sleek and ergonomic shin pads are available for MMA sparring, including Haybusa’s Ikusa and Tokushus, or basic cloth shinpads from Thai brands Fairtex or MTG. When utilising these, you must be aware that the power of your kicks has to be taken down a notch given the disparity in padding available. It’s courtesy to your training partners to go lighter, and it is useful to have a pair available for both purposes. If that option is unavailable, your first port of call would be the full Thai products before investing in slip-on MMA variations. In Thailand, many professionals will spar extremely lightly without the use of gloves or shin guards, but the culture of sparring is much different here so you are unlikely to find that kind of training. Stick to your shinnies and eliminate injury.

Bought these a while back and after using them for a bit now I can assure you they will keep you and your sparring partner safe from potential injuries, after a short while you barely notice them on which is always a plus when sparring. The detachable foot comes in handy when training outside and makes the shin guard easier to carry around in your gym bag, I definitely recommend this fairtex shin guard and the price is also excellent

Great Shinguards for Muay Thai or MMA

Usually would have bought Thai made Muay Thai Shinguards but these were a great price and I'd read a little about them. After a few months of use I was buying something else from fightstorepro and decided to tell the world how good these Thai Shin pads are.

The straps go opposite ways which is really clever stopping check spin and the padding is double layered which negates most the damage during sparring. They are pretty comfortable and I prefer the under knee style shin guard.

Got to say these Revgear shinpads are really good and anyone doing thai or kickboxing should definitely give them a try as they are great value for money; I'm going to try the gloves next!

Me and my son train a couple of times a week. Since we been training for a while now only high standard products are good enough for him. We bought this whole package and we are so satisfied. The gear is very endurable and has a good fit, also my son really enjoyed the looks of it. I recomend all kids who train martial arts in a hard and serious way to use the Revgear products, it is not easy to find good fight gears for kids. I also would like to give my thanks to the customer support of fightstorepro, you were so helpful when things went a bit wrong. Quick response and Quick solving the problem, impressive work! Kind regards michel and son
